Our Journey of Selling A Home in the English Countryside. I decided it was time for a sea change from city life, we began house-hunting in rural North London with hopes of making a tree change. After a few busts, we found Cottage alongside a bubbling brook in the North London. The 400 year old property offered charming character despite requiring updating to modern living standards. We took the plunge, investing value bringing electric, plumbing and insulation up to scratch over 6 months of weekend DIY projects. Refreshing the open plan layout, refinished oak beams and sash windows emphasized period features that respected the cottage's historical integrity. We happily called Cottage home for 5 years, embracing village community life and idyllic rural escapism regularly visited by our children Oliver, 7 and Lily, 5. However, as our family grew, we yearned for additional bedrooms and outdoor space to host extended family holidays. After much deliberation, we decided the time was right to sell up and find our forever family home. Listed exclusively with a local countryside estate agent, marketing touted the cottage's charm yet realistic price reflected upgrade needs for potential new owners. We conducted viewings evenings and weekends to accommodate full-time working buyers. After several on the market, we received an offer for full asking price subject to surveys. A quick 28-day sale ensued. While we naturally felt sentimental leaving the cottage we restored, it afforded joy seeing another family appreciate her charms. The sale proceeds allowed our own upsize to a period farmhouse on acreage with room to grow. Occasionally we drive by, smiling inwardly at our chapters there that started our rural life adventures. For anyone contemplating a country sale, committing fully pays off attracting dream buyers.
